The Abolitionist: Issue 19

Dear Friend,

Thanks to your compassion and support, COK’s dedicated staff members work as hard as we can to shine an unwavering spotlight on the cruelties endured by those animals typically viewed as nothing more than meat-, egg-, and milk-producing machines. Our commitment to ending their suffering has never been stronger, and our ability to affect change has never been more powerful!

As you’ll read in this issue of The Abolitionist, COK’s determination is paving the way for crucial advancements for farmed animals. This past winter, we released a video filmed by a COK undercover investigator that provided the foundation for a case of criminal animal cruelty involving one of Pennsylvania’s largest egg factory farms. You can bear witness to the appalling conditions forced upon hens inside this abusive animal factory as well as 300 million other caged laying hens in the United States, by visiting our new online resource, EggIndustry.com.

From our first bite of breakfast to the last forkful of food for dinner, every single day our dietary choices have far-reaching effects on the lives and deaths of countless animals. That’s why we continue to expand and enhance our positive, yet hard-hitting, campaigns encouraging people to think about what—and who—they’re eating. In addition to our highly successful MTV pro-vegetarian commercial campaign (now in its third year!), we’re spreading the animals’ message through our profile on the wildly popular social networking site Myspace, with our VegDC.com and VegPortland.com websites that creatively demonstrate the ease of finding animal-friendly fare, by distributing free literature including a new poster and leaflet, and much more.

Your support lets us speak out for the victims of animal agribusiness, and for this we are truly grateful. Thank you for helping make this world a kinder place—and for choosing compassion over killing.

Sincerely,

Erica Meier
Executive Director
